Start the day.
Write down 10 new Blessings and why you are grateful for them. Read each one repeating “thank you, thank you, thank you”, feeling gratitude for each one.
The general definition of “habit” is “an acquired behavior pattern regularly followed until it has become almost involuntary.” An example of this is looking before you cross a road. For most of us this is so ingrained that we do this automatically without thinking. We do not think, “oh, I’d better look left and right before crossing this road.” It is an automatic involuntary action. It is a habit.
The goal of this Journey to Gratitude is to make gratitude a habit. Once we are consciously grateful for what we have and consciously grateful for what we want, but do not have yet, we unconsciously attract what we want into our lives.
The general definition of “gratitude” is “a feeling of being thankful and appreciative.”
Robert Emmons, an expert on gratitude, in his essay “Gratitude is Good”, argues that gratitude has two key components . . .
βFirst,β he writes, βitβs an affirmation of goodness. We affirm that there are good things in the world, gifts and benefits weβve received.β
In the second part of gratitude, he explains, βwe recognize that the sources of this goodness are outside of ourselves. β¦ We acknowledge that other people (or even higher powers, if youβre of a spiritual mindset) gave us many gifts, big and small, to help us achieve the goodness in our lives.β
Which brings us to Day Two, The Magic Rock. By now you should have found your Magic Rock. This will serve as a reminder to be grateful and re-enforce the habit of feeling grateful.
Find a big pebble or small stone that fits comfortably in the palm of your hand. You should be able to wrap your fingers around it and enclose it in your hand. Put this stone next to your bed on your bedside table. It should be clearly visible and easy to reach. If you like, paint it or decorate it and personalize it as it is going to be around for a long timeβ¦β¦β¦β¦β¦β¦β¦β¦
When you go to bed tonight hold your Magic Rock in your hand. Close your fingers around it and feel it. Think of all the good things that have happened today. Choose the best good thing that happened and, feeling as grateful as you can, say “thank you, thank you, thank you”.
The beauty of this is that while searching through the day for the best good experience, you will be reminded of all the good things that happened. And by remembering all of these good experiences, you will be feeling thankful for each and every one, not only the best one.
Rhonda Byrne, in The Magic, says that by Counting your Blessings every morning and by using the Magic Rock to remember the good experiences of the day every evening, you are starting and ending each day with gratitude. Do this every day for the rest of the journey.
For Day Three you will need to collect three photos reflective of three close relationships for which you are grateful. These can be photos of the person or of you with that person. If you do not have physical photos, have the digital images on the desktop of your computer or on your phone. You can even create a collage or slideshow of the three images. Whatever is easier for you.
Thank you to those who have shared their feelings and thoughts in the Comments section. And to those who haven’t yet, don’t be shy. We are all on this journey together.

Had such a happy day today. Every experience was so much more fun and enjoyable than usual. Even washing dishes π
Day 2 and I woke up feeling so much joy and gratitude. Painted my Magic Pebbles with purple nail polish to personalize it as purple is the colour of Amethyst. How is everyone feeling today? Please share your thoughts and feelings……
I’ve chosen my stone and ready for tonight’s “gratitude rock” thanks before I sleep π
Hey Eager Beaver, its only Day 2 tomorrow. Feeling gratitude when holding your Gratitude Rock/Stone is the magic practice for Day 2. But go ahead and practice tonight if you like. Thanks for sharing (and caring).
you wont believe this, I finally scattered my mom’s and Ak’s ashes on Sunday (as you know AK passed away on 29th and mom celebrated here birthday on the same day) I selected two white pebbles on the beach and have this next to my bed – these are my magic stones – they remind me of both loved ones and thank you thank you thank you for being able to keep all those beautiful memories I have of both of them.
Hi Denise
What a lovely idea to keep those two stones next to your bed as your “Gratitude Stones” and a reminder of your loved ones.
