Start the day
Write down 10 new Blessings and why you are grateful for them. Read each one repeating “thank you, thank you, thank you”, feeling gratitude for each one.
“Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn’t learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn’t learn a little, at least we didn’t get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn’t die; so, let us all be thankful.” – Buddha
We all experience and go through what we think of and label as “negative situations’. Finance issues, health problems, the state of our relationships, something happening at work or complications in our lives caused by other people.
Rhonda Byrne says, in The Magic, that “negative situations arise because of a lack of gratitude over a long period of time.”
Lacking gratitude and how this affects our lives can be explained like this.
- When we are not grateful, we are taking things for granted.
- When we take things for granted, we are not giving thanks.
- If we are not giving thanks, we are not attracting more things for which to give thanks.
Think about the times we do feel gratitude for something. Are we only grateful for things which we have when we might lose them, or no longer have them? We are thankful for our job when we learn that we might lose it through retrenchments, grateful for our car when it is being repaired and we have to do without it for a day, grateful for times we were healthy when we are sick in bed, grateful for times spent with good friends only once they have moved away and we are missing them.
Complaining
Rhonda Byrne says that it is taking things for granted (not being thankful for what we have) which leads to us complaining. And we all do it. A lot. And, by the Law of Attraction, we are only attracting more things into our lives to complain about.
Rhonda says, “Now you understand that complaining, negative thoughts and words, and taking things for granted stops the good things in your life. Now
you understand that when something goes very wrong you have unintentionally not been grateful enough. It’s impossible to be negative when you’re grateful. It’s impossible to criticize and blame when you’re grateful. It’s impossible to feel sad or have any negative feeling when you’re grateful. And the best news is that if you have any negative situations in your life currently, it won’t take a long period of time to transform them with gratitude. The negative situations will disappear in a puff of smoke – just like magic!”
Think of one of those old fashioned scales where you add something to each side until they are balanced evenly.
Now imagine that the left side collects your all your complaints, negative and ungrateful thoughts and feelings. Every time you complain about something, every time you are not grateful for something and take something for granted, these are added to the left side of the scale.
The other side of the scale is filled with all your gratitude, thankfulness and positive thoughts and feelings. Every time you feel grateful for something and every time you feel thankful for something, this is added to the right side of the scale.
Think of this scale as your personal Gratitude Scale.
The first thing you must do in order to use the power of Gratitude to resolve negative situations is to look for things to be grateful for. No matter how bad circumstances are, you will always find something positive to be grateful for. You have been increasing your awareness of things to be grateful for over the last 6 days. So it should be getting easier to use this awareness as a tool to add gratitude to the right side of your Gratitude Scale. As you do this, see the negative side of the scale getting lighter and lighter, and less and less until all the negative weight is completely gone.
Now go and think of a current negative situation in your life and make a list of 10 things about this same situation that you can be positive and grateful for.
Rhonda Byrne gives us a few detailed examples in The Magic and we encourage you to read this chapter in your book.
If you are unemployed, for example, here are 5 things for which to be grateful. Can you add another 5 to complete the list?
1. I am so grateful to have had more time for my family during this period.
2. I’m grateful that my life is in a lot better order because of the spare time I’ve had.
3. I am grateful that I’ve had a job most of my life, and that I am experienced.
4. I am truly grateful that this is the first time I’ve been unemployed.
5. I’m grateful that there are jobs out there, and more new jobs are appearing each day.
6.
7.
8.
9.
10.
Do the same for your current negative situation and these feelings of gratitude will attract better things and circumstances must and will change, magically. After you have read these to yourself, feeling truly grateful, finish by writing, “thank you, thank you, thank you, for the perfect resolution.”
The second task Rhonda Byrne gives us is to go through the whole day today without thinking or saying anything negative. Most of us are unaware of how many negative things we think and say or how often we complain. How much we are unconsciously adding to the negative side of our Gratitude Scale.
When you catch yourself about to think or say something negative, or to complain, stop and say “But I have to say I am really grateful for . . . . “. Use your growing awareness of gratitude to find something / anything you are grateful for.
What we have been doing, is letting each other know when we hear the other one saying anything negative and sharing when we realise that we have had a negative thought. We then both come up with a positive thought or statement. If you are following this journey with a partner, try and do the same.
If you see a potentially troublesome situation in your future you can use this Magic Practice to prevent it from growing into a large problem.
End the day
When you go to bed tonight hold your Magic Rock in your hand. Close your fingers around it and feel it. Think of all the good things that have happened today. Choose the best good thing that happened and, feeling as grateful as you can, say “thank you, thank you, thank you”.
