Koh Samui Tuesday 28th March 2017 Day 1

28th March 2017

ITINERARY OF THE DAY

We had lunch at the Choengmon Beach Hotel restaurant and went shopping at the local 7-11.  Yes, a 7-11. These shops are everywhere and sell almost everything.

We ended the day with a night walk along Moo 5 road (which is the main road that runs around most of the island) and had cocktails at the Orange Peel Ice and Bar. Our first impressions (from our arrival) were instantly changed. The road looked so different with the lights, the music from the bars and restaurants and the vibe in the street.

If you had to arrive at night your experience would be entirely different. The road is transformed into a place of life, lights, sights, sounds and people bustling, strolling around. With the brightly lit street and the vibe, you do not have the initial sense of poverty one sees in the day. Thai people are welcoming and friendly. The feeling that the people are only trying to make money from tourists is replaced by one of being invited to experience this wonderful place they call home.

We only got home after 11 pm and sat chatting for some time as we were still so energized and could not sleep. No early night for us.

 HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY

Enjoying Local Thai food at the Choengmon Beach Hotel Restaurant. The taste sensations and flavours were incredible and simply cannot be compared to Thai food back in Cape Town.

Learning how to greet and thank Thai people in their language. The smiles on their faces making it worth the effort of trying to memorize these few simple phrases.

Hello – general greeting

sà-wàt-dee  kráp  if you are male and  sà-wàt-dee    if you are female.

Thank you

A woman should say khop khun kha and a man should say khop khun khap

DISCOVERIES OF THE DAY
