ITINERARY FOR THE DAY

Walked along Moo road pricing scooter hire. Average price seems to be 200 Baht per day and 4000 Baht for a month.

Walked up to T-Phak Phink Hotel to meet Joy. This hotel has been the residence of the Samui TEFL students for some time and Joy is the usual contact person who helps arrange the accommodation and advises students. The hotel has since been sold and we are the first TEFL students to stay at the Choengmon Beach Hotel.

Walked on up to the Samui Tefl School and had lunch at the Little Kitchen next door where the students usually eat. This lady makes tasty local Thai food at very affordable prices and we will definitely be eating there again.

Tried to find a Songthaew to take us to Tesco’s or Big C Shopping Mall for our first grocery shopping. LOL. There are two routes. One is North which passes the Big Buddha and the other is South. Irritation got the better of us while walking first one way and then the next as no one seems to agree as to which route is shorter.

We eventually reached Big C and found everything we were looking for. Including Mandy’s new friend. An Electric Pot which can boil, fry, grill, and poach. Amazing find.

Mandy made cheese, tomato, onion, Vienna, coriander and chili toasties. Totally delicious.

We have realized that we just cannot sustain an affordable lifestyle eating out for every meal at the obviously tourist-priced eateries around Koh Samui. So we are only going to be buying fresh produce from the markets and making our own food as much as possible. This not only saves us money, but also satisfies Mandy’s unquenchable creative urge to cook and prepare food 😊.

DISCOVERIES OF THE DAY

Grocery shopping at the Big C and finding fresh produce and products similar to home.  Finding an affordable kitchen appliance that could be used to toast, grill, fry and boil.

 HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY

Setting up our make-shift kitchen in our hotel room and making our first meal.

  1. Loving this. What a pleasure to be an armchair traveller with you as the guide. Enjoying the ride with you. Love love love.

  2. I knew she would make a plan to cook. It’s in our blood, we got it from our mom. Soon she will be cooking thai food just like the vendors. 🙂
