Phnom Penh “Riverside Park”

The promenade also known as the “Riverside Park”, which is located along the bank of the Tonle Sap River, is usually very popular with bars and restaurants open along this stretch. Street buskers (street entertainers), fire dance displays, stalls and street vendors would normally keep you fed and entertained.

Unfortunately with LOCKDOWN, all the bars and restaurants are closed and the only entertainment are the flocks of pigeons eagerly awaiting crumbs and seeds from passerby (a daily ritual it seems as there were quite a few people feeding the birds). The floating restaurant boats were also moored and not operating.

While strolling along we took some pics of the slice of land that separates the Tonle Sap River and Mekong River. This stretch of river is usually bustling with river boats and floating restaurants.

We were once again intrigued at how “old meets new” in this fascinating country. This picture speaks for itself!

The trees and gardens always look so spectacularly dressed this time of the evening in bright foliage and greenery.

On the way back to the guesthouse it was lovely to see young families enjoying the park once again. The area where we are currently staying has been classified as a “yellow zone” so people are allowed to go outside as long as they are wearing face masks and practicing safe distancing.

Unfortunately we still cannot travel from Phnom Pehn to Siem Reap… Here’s hoping travel restrictions will be lifted soon as we desperately need to go home… Although we know we are back in Cambodia when we see cables secured to poles like this…

We hope you enjoyed this read and strolling with us along the Riverside Park.
