You will need a fast, stable and reliable internet to join me in the virtual classroom using your laptop, iPad or any other smart device. You will also need to download and install the Zoom Meeting client software, which is free.
Installing Zoom
- Download and install the Zoom Desktop Client software from www.zoom.com.
Create a Zoom account (it’s free). To sign up for your own free account, visit the Zoom sign-up page and enter your email address. You will receive an email from Zoom (no-reply@zoom.us). In this email, click Activate Account. - The Zoom website has an excellent Getting started guide.
- Open the Zoom Desktop Client software and sign into your account.
- That’s all you need to do. In most cases Zoom will not need any further changes. To find out more about changing settings or testing your Zoom installation, go to Zoom Settings and Testing Zoom.
I have made sure that meeting me in class is a very easy process. Ahead of each class, I will send you an email with a Zoom Meeting link. Click on the link in the email and meet me in class. Step-by-step instructions can be found here. You can also add the upcoming Zoom class to your online calendar. Zoom supports a number of calendars such as Google calendar, Outlook etc.
Joining a class
- Before each class you will receive an automated email with the Zoom Meeting link and the Zoom Meeting ID and Passcode for the meeting / class. I will also send you an email confirming this information
- If you do not receive your Zoom Meeting link, please email me.
- Make sure that you have the Zoom Desktop Client open.
- In the email, click on the link under “Join Zoom Meeting”.
- This will launch the Zoom Desktop Client and you will see a pop-up window “Please wait for the host to start this meeting.”.
- Once I start the meeting, you will automatically join.
Preparing for class
Before each class you will receive a Lesson Preparation Pack. The Preparation Pack outlines the objective of the lesson, the target English vocabulary and any English grammar to be taught. This pack will also include links to songs and videos in “YouTube”, relating to the lesson. For younger students, flashcards and colouring pages are included. For more advanced students there are worksheets.
The Lesson Preparation Pack can be printed out before class, to help your child prepare for the lesson and can also be used to revise after the class.
