ADVENTURES OF THE DAY

Not a very exciting day as Mandy was not feeling in the best of spirits. (her knee was throbbing and appeared to be more inflamed).

Mandy bravely decided to follow advice given by Emma (from the Bob Bar) and proceeded to scrape off the nasty, yellow looking layer that had formed over the wound to release any possible infection.

While performing this “minor surgery”, Richard (who couldn’t watch) assisted by drinking vodka to numb the pain . . LOL. After removing the layer from the infected area and alternatively cleaning and disinfecting it with surgical alcohol, profanity unavoidable, the area did looked cleaner and healthier.

Wound clean and disinfected, Mandy was ready to venture out.  They met up with their two classmates and flagged down a Songthaew and reached the market just before the official opening time at 5pm. Stalls were just beginning to set up and already the tantalizing aromas of various foods being prepared were wafting along the thoroughfare.

it was time to get ready for the Fisherman’s Village Night Market excursion with their fellow students. This night market takes place every Friday night and is an incredibly popular and recommended attraction. One long street is closed off to traffic and is quickly filled with stalls, vendors and street bars. Besides these, one still has the multitude of shops and restaurants running along each side of the street. There is just so much to see. Souvenirs, clothing, electronic gadgets and plenty of food to buy (from fried insects, octopus, crocodile and meat kebabs, Pad Thai, tempura vegetables, sea-food to sushi, ice cream, waffles, banana pancakes, the list is endless).

Walking up and down the steadily increasing streams of people (they lost Matt and Nicole), they browsed through a number of stalls until they found themselves at the end of the market street.  They continued walking along a promenade in front of the adjoining hotels, where there was an outside bar with “swing type” chairs and white sheet-ed pagoda’s set up along the beach. The view of the beach from the promenade absolutely stunning.

They made their way back to the street market in search of something to eat finally deciding on freshly fried vegetable spring rolls, assorted vegetable tempura and BBQ chicken with sweet chili dipping sauce.  (The sweet chili sauce here in Thailand definitely more chili than sweet and so Yummmmmmm)

Besides the usual stalls (like any other market) and food vendors, there were also a variety of cocktail stands and live music.  Richard enjoyed a refreshing Strawberry Mojito and Mandy, a Pinacolada, while the music from a Reggae Bar they spotted earlier, drew them closer.

They met up again with Matt and Nicole along the way to the “Freedom Way” Bar, all looking forward to some live music.

Well, it would seem that the band members were either recovering from “Songkran” the night before or just operating on typical “Thailand Time”, as over the next hour or so they sauntered in one by one.  But the wait was so well worth it as once they started playing and singing, Freedom Way Bar, came alive.

Richard and Mandy, who were in the mood for a party vibe, really relaxed and enjoyed the music, singing and moving along to Reggae favourites like No Woman No Cry, 3 Little Birds and the Redemption Song as well as other genre’s.

As the market started winding down, the vibe at the Pub started winding up, with the band leading the crowd to sing along.  The favourite song for the crowd most definitely was a Thai Reggae song,  Doo Doo Doo. (Click here for another version of this awesome song).
This is a song from down south by reggae man Job Bunjob (จ๊อบ บรรจบ) – Doo Ter Tam (ดูเธอทำ). A comedy song with lyrics dealing with a break up and his girlfriend stealing his favorite Bob Marley CD’s.

ดู ดู่ ดู้ ดู เธอทำ
doo dòo dôo doo ter tam

Look, look, look, look what you do,

ทำไมถึงทำกับฉันได้
tam-mai teung tam gap chan dai

How can you do this to me,

ดู ดู่ ดู้ ดู เธอทำ
doo dòo dôo doo ter tam

Look, look, look, look what you do,

ทำไมถึงทำกับฉันได้
tam-mai teung tam gap chan dai

How can you do this to me,

With the market closing and not wanting to leave but worried that they might miss the last Songthaew home, they (including Nicole), made their way back to the main road.  After dropping Nicole at her residence, they made it home happy, relaxed and in good Reggae spirits

“Doo-doo-doo-doo-ter-tum
Tum-mai-teung-tum-gub-chun-dai”
