ADVENTURES OF THE DAY

Richard awoke this morning to the sound of heavy rain.  Usually being the early riser, he decided to snooze a bit longer in hopes of re-awaking to a clearer day.  After re-awaking and snoozing again, the rain did not let up so he finally went out to greet the rain and have his first cigarette of the day.

All hopes of the weather clearing were dimmed when Mandy joined him on the balcony.  As she stepped outside the rain become a down pour and every time after that during the course of the morning, every time Mandy stepped out onto the balcony the rain came down heavier.  Mandy could only relate it to her prayer warrior sisters who are praying for rain in South Africa.  Will need to ask them to please be more specific in their prayers and exclude Thailand!

As there would be no venturing out today, an admin day it would be.

Besides Richards attempts at getting Skype accounts set up on both lap tops for possible future interviews, TEFL Thailand CV’s were drafted.  This was followed by a hot shower and sprucing up for the taking of professional photos for their CV’s.

With the passing and mourning of the Thailand King, King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who died at the age of 88 on 13 October 2016, after a long illness, certain government departments including schools, expect their staff to wear black for a full year out of respect.

The late Thailand King Bhumibol Adulyadej

So, until November 2017, certain schools will expect all teachers going to practice with their TEFL instructor, or going for interviews or when teaching after accepting job opportunities, to wear black.  We decided to show respect by dressing in black for our professional CV photograph.

A brief lull in the rain allowed Richard to take a quick scoot out to firstly find a much-needed cork screw and to pop in at the scooter shop as we had noticed yesterday that the right dashboard indicator light was not working.  He arrived back with a replacement scooter which he was glad to report was in a much better running condition but sadly minus a cork screw.

But not all lost, a quick pop over to reception solved the problem with someone on duty having a Swiss Army Knife with cork screw in tac.  (Swiss Army Knife to go on Richards next birthday list – a definite must have)!

So not a very exciting day due to the rain.  We have been advised by quite a few locals that this kind of weather is very unusual for this time of year in Thailand.  March is usually very hot followed by an even hotter April.  Not sure whether to be relieved or annoyed after cabin fever starts setting in.  Thank heavens we have a bottle of red wine to open.  Our reward for getting our work CV’s done!

HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY

Wine tasting.

So, looking forward to tasting the “Reserve” red wine from Lakeside Winery (East State), Mandy put out some cheese and biscuits.

The “Lakeville” reserve wine is produced and distributed locally in Thailand.

The bottle reads, “Proudly present one-of-a-kind production of selected mulberry.  Aroma and Bouquet, itself, offer you smooth touch of tropical uniqueness.  Surrounding with lakes and hills not only defines our winery as one of the most stunning sceneries in East Area but also makes our facility quiet and calm, Now, it’s your time to enjoy our “RESERVE” wine!”

Presenting one-of-a-kind production!

In Mandy’s opinion, hopefully once only produced!  The wine tasted like it had been manufactured from berries and left a taste of iron in her mouth.  Which in her opinion would be best appreciated if tabled at Count Dracula’s Castle.

Richard was more complimentary, (but then again a less experienced reserve wine drinker).  He rated the wine as a sweet fermented berry juice with a kick.  It’s wine made from mulberries. Not a grape in sight. Well let’s see how much of a kick a 11.5% volume bottle of wine will give as he is welcome to finish the bottle on his own.
