BEGINNER LEVEL 2 -PHONICS

Helping young learners to improve on their phonics and pronunciation is an important and essential part of being an ESL teacher.

On this level of the program, we focus on phonics and pronunciation. We introduce consonant and vowel digraphs (2 letters that make one sound like ch), trigraphs (3 letters that make one sound like igh) and frigatives (the correct articulation of sounds). We also teach words that start and end with digraphs (like cheese and beach) and words that have trigraphs (like high, and light).

We introduce the 5 vowels and how to use “a” and “an” with words starting with or without a vowel. We also introduce the 3 main parts of speech (nouns, verbs and adjectives).

Practice when to use “a” or “an”

Vowels are a crucial part of the English language. Without vowels we cannot make words. Every young English language learner must learn the 5 vowels and the short and long vowel sounds.

Learning words with the short /a/ sound.

Knowing the vowels and the sounds they make, will help immensely when learning to read and write.

Learners learn words that start with both the short /a/ and long /ei/ sounds.

Learners are taught to read short, easy picture sentences using sight words and the new words they have learnt.

After successfully completing Beginner Level 2, the young learner is now ready to start Beginner Level 3.
